Did you know that increased or decreased humidity can lead to paper jams? When buying paper, consider the location from where it was sourced. If it comes from a mill in your region, the trees and paper are better acclimated to the environment, thus leaving less chance for seasonal changes to affect it.
Storage Matters Too
On top of environmental conditions, where you store your paper matters too. Like a fine wine, if the space is too hot or too cold, it won’t turn out properly. The paper’s texture and weight will change, leaving more opportunity for paper jams. Store your extra reams in a climate-controlled room to maintain a consistent weight and texture.
Treat Office Equipment with Care
If you do commonly experience paper jams, don’t get frustrated. Instead, follow these tips to prevent the next one from happening:
- Use paper that’s intact and free of wrinkles.
- Keep food and drink away from all office equipment.
- Feed paper into the machine the right way by following the arrow direction on the ream.
- If copying or scanning, remove staples, post-its, and anything else that could get caught inside the machine.
