Optimize Your Workspace for Better Productivity

October 21, 2020

In 2020, workers around the country have left the office for a work-from-home situation due to the ever-changing and challenging circumstances brought on by the coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic.

We didn’t expect this at the beginning of the year, but here we are and now our homes are also our office spaces. So to keep things a little more organized, compartmentalized, and sane, we’ve put together a short list of ways you can optimize your workspace for a more productive work day.

Optimize Your Senses

Be mindful of your surroundings when building a comfortable workspace. Your innate senses can play a part in making your space feel welcoming. Pay attention to the lighting in the room, as well as what type of air flow is available. Is the temperature ideal? You can even go so far as to ask yourself, “Does this room smell comfortable?” Scents are subjective, so find a candle or incense that fits your needs.

Refreshment

It may sound like a given, but having a desk that has the food and drink essentials is highly important. I don’t know if you’ve tried to work on an empty stomach or when you’re dehydrated, but it’s the worst and can lead to distraction and procrastination, two things that hamper a productive day.

Physical and Idea Storage

A helpful workspace should have two helpful items: a place to quickly write down notes and ideas that pop into your mind and then a place to store those ideas. The former is considered idea storage and post-it notes, notebooks, and journals will help with that. Let’s say you’re working on one project but think of something related to another; having a note taking solution at arms length is both handy and efficient. Then, of course, you should have physical storage for all your desk’s knick-knacks so that at the end of each work day, cleaning up and organizing the day's work is done quickly and with ease of mind.

If you’ve ever worked from home for an extended period of time, you know having a clean and organized workspace reduces the additional stress and anxiety that comes with not being around colleagues, so we hope you take the time to sit back and look at what your space might be lacking.

If you’re planning to start the organizing process and need helpful supplies, look to us here at Pacific Office Automation. Along with printers, scanners, and other office equipment, we also have a diverse catalog of everyday office supplies
