Procrastination is almost a part of everyday lives. But the Internet and all of its distractions have turned us into a highly distracted workforce. Of course, there are just certain jobs or projects that we may not want to do, so we put them off until the last minute. At Pacific Office Automation, we want to help our clients be more productive. Here are some tips on how to stop procrastinating:

1. Tackle the hardest task first. Once you get that part out of the way, the rest will be easier. However, for some people it is more important to do the easiest part first and just get the ball rolling. Having accomplished one piece can provide motivation to keep going. Test out which method works for you.

2. Break down big projects into smaller tasks. Create a list of all of the tasks you need to accomplish, and take it one step at a time. Breaking down jobs into smaller tasks is less daunting for people who become overwhelmed by the big picture.

3. Set a timer. Tell yourself you will only work on a certain task for 10 or 20 minutes and commit to staying focused during that time frame. It will fly by if you challenge yourself to work as hard as you can in a race against the clock. You'll be amazed at how much you can get done in a little block of time.

4. Minimize the distractions. This is a huge obstacle to overcome in how to stop procrastinating because distractions are everywhere. You can work smarter with fewer interruptions because your brain can stay more focused on the job you’re doing. So turn off your cell phone, email and instant messaging notifications. Clear your desk of anything unrelated to the task at hand. Put some earphones in if you have disruptive co-workers. You can even let people know you're on a deadline and can set up a time to speak with them later.
