Pacific Office Automation’s Weekend Out in Phoenix: What to Do

December 21, 2015

With average temperatures ranging from 63 to 87 degrees, it's no wonder so many people flock to Phoenix. In fact, it's one of the fastest-growing cities in America. People may come for the sunshine, but they stay for the unique landscape, recreation, arts and culture, food, shopping and sports. When we're not helping companies improve their workflow, we like to get out and enjoy all that Phoenix has to offer. Here are some of our favorite things to do:

  • At POA, we love our sports, and Phoenix is one of the best sports cities in America. Phoenix is host to the big three: NFL, NBA and MLB, as well as WNBA, pro hockey and arena football. Plus, the University of Arizona and nearby Arizona State University offer plenty of college football excitement, basketball and baseball fans. Late winter/early spring is arguably one of the best times to visit Phoenix when Spring Training is in full swing, and you can check out your favorite baseball team's prospects in a smaller venue.Speaking of sports, we love to golf at POA. Phoenix offers some of the best golf in the world, with the brown, red and orange hardscapes serving as a dramatic backdrop to the lush greens you'll find here. In fact, POA hosts annual golf tournaments at courses like the Phoenician to show our customer appreciation and to benefit local nonprofits such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona.
  • If sports aren't your thing, but you like to be active, there are tons of urban hiking opportunities. Camelback Mountain offers breathtaking vistas, and South Mountain is the largest municipal park in America.Check out the city's unique architecture. Tour Tovrea Castle in the city center, a structure with Spanish and Italian influences that some say resembles a wedding cake. Also, be sure to check out Taliesin West, Frank Lloyd Wright's 600-acre Scottsdale home, which is a National Historic Landmark.
  • For more history, visit the Heard Museum for a look back into the area's Native American tribes and their histories as well as rotating art exhibits. A collection of Frida Kahlo’s photographs are on display through early February.
  • Eat at one of the city's amazing Mexican restaurants, like Barrio Cafe, that offers authentic, gourmet and delicious barrio-style food.
  • Drink up. While you might not immediately think "craft beer" when you think of Phoenix, there are 70 or so craft breweries in town, not to mention plenty of beer festivals, brew tours and beer trails to try out.
  • Get your cacti education. Visit the Desert Botanical Garden, home to 50,000 plants and Dale Chihuly sculptures. Plus, it's 10 degrees cooler than the city, according to the locals.

At Pacific Office Automation our play is an important part of our work, and Phoenix offers great opportunities for both.
